Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey review

optimum nutrition gold standard whey review

This post will be an Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey review covering the quality, protein content, taste, texture and cost of Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey protein.  Optimum Nutrition is a popular brand of sports nutrition supplements and they produce a highly regarded range of bodybuilding supplements.  This is the first Optimum Nutrition product review on Gym Blog and we are focussing on the 100% Gold Standard whey protein however there are plenty more high quality products in the Optimum Nutrition range we will be reviewing in the future.

Quality and protein content

First of all we would like to point out that the quality of Gold Standard whey protein is extremely good with high protein content, you are definitely getting good bang for your buck.  In a 29g serving (1 scoop) there is 24g of protein with only 1.5g fat and 3g of carbohydrates.  This is impressive for what is effectively a protein blend of whey protein isolate, concentrate and peptides.

Taste and texture

The taste of Gold Standard whey protein is also very favourable and it comes in a wide variety of flavours.  Some of my favourites so far are the ‘Delicious Strawberry’, ‘Vanilla Ice cream’ and ‘Double Chocolate’.  I am yet to try the more extravagant flavours such as ‘Rocky Road’ (which I hear is very nice) and ‘Cookies and Cream’ which I look forward to trying in the future.  Optimum Nutrition (or ON for short) pride themselves on their flavouring systems and are commonly regarded as one of the best in the industry without cramming their product full of carbohydrates and sugars.

The texture is also good and the supplement mixes easily with water.  We did also try it with milk too which needs a bit more shaking but it is smooth to taste and goes down well if you fancy a thicker shake.

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey protein cost and pricing

We have found that the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey protein is slightly more expensive than some of the lower cost whey proteins on the market but it is certainly much more cost effective than some of the more expensive brands such as Muscletech.  It sits comfortably in the middle ground as far as prices go which makes it a good all rounder with its high protein content and excellent tasting flavours.  Definitely one to recommend and it is one of my personal favourite whey protein supplements.

I hope this Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey review has been of use to you, let me know your thoughts if you have got anything else to add.

  1. This is honestly the best Whey. I’ve been using it for a couple years. It mixes well and ON has a ton of different flavours. And the best part, maybe the most important, is that it tastes great too. I’ve tried a few flavours I didn’t love, but they have so much variety it’s awesome you’ll definitely find a few favourites.

  2. One of the best out there, certainly worth a try if you haven’t already.
